From KITPro Server to KITPro Console: the naming transition underway
The Console name describes the application’s host and self-hosted application management role. Public alpha.15 continues to ship as KITPro Server.

KITPro is moving the KITPro Server application toward the name KITPro Console. The distinction matters: KITPro Linux Server is the operating system, while the application is a web console for administering a Linux host and managing supported self-hosted applications.
The transition is underway in development. The latest verified public application release, v0.1.0-alpha.15, still ships as KITPro Server. The private alpha.16 development line introduces the KITPro Console presentation name. This article announces the direction and explains its compatibility boundaries; it does not announce a public alpha.16 release.
A name that describes the application
The application began with trusted application management and now includes native host administration. The Console name makes that role easier to distinguish from KITPro Linux Server and better describes the product's broader administration interface. It remains one application, rather than a second product that existing users must install alongside KITPro Server.
The public alpha.15 baseline includes an administration dashboard, host overview, bounded service and journal views, storage inventory, curated service actions, and controlled storage operations. It preserves the digest-pinned application catalog, Docker lifecycle management, persistent storage, managed ingress and HTTPS, diagnostics, backup, and administrator recovery workflows. The alpha.16 development line continues that work. Its development capabilities should not be inferred to exist in public alpha.15 packages.
Compatibility before cosmetic replacement
The current development direction preserves the installed package name kitpro-server, existing service identities, commands, configuration and state directories, API routes, database identity, and backup formats. Development adds a non-breaking kitpro-console command alias while retaining kitpro-server.
This is a presentation-name transition, not permission to rename system directories, rewrite service accounts, replace a package by hand, or migrate data outside the documented upgrade procedure. Existing deployments should continue using the installation and upgrade documentation for their actual released version.
The package-bound upgrade process remains responsible for package identity, database integrity, schema compatibility, configuration ownership, and pre-upgrade backups. A branding change does not make package downgrade after a schema migration safe. Recovery continues to rely on verified backups or independently managed snapshots.
Separate from the operating system
KITPro Console is designed to run on supported Linux hosts and on qualified KITPro Linux generations. Its application version does not assign an operating-system version. It is optional in KITPro Linux Server 1.1 and is not installed or enabled there by default.
The naming transition does not broaden the product's support claims. Public alpha software remains alpha software. Rocky Linux and Podman remain Experimental. Clustering, high availability, arbitrary Docker Compose management, general filesystem repair, and portable cross-host restore are not established capabilities merely because the product name is changing.
When the name becomes a public release identity
The public packages, release title, tagged documentation, and product page must agree before the transition can be described as shipped. Until a Console-branded public release is independently verified, download links should identify the actual KITPro Server release and preserve existing repository and package compatibility.
Follow the official release records for the eventual public branding transition and the installation instructions attached to that release. Existing application data does not need to be moved simply to adopt a new display name.
