Keep computing hardware accessible as AI and enterprise demand reshape the market.
Read the five principlesOUR FOUNDING MISSION
People need hardware they can afford to keep using.
Keep It Cheap advocates for affordable computer hardware, transparent prices, consumer ownership, repairability, and healthy market competition.
Students, families, independent creators, small businesses, and people learning on their own need access to computers they can afford to buy, maintain, and keep using. Those needs deserve a lasting place in decisions about the future of computing.
FIVE CONSUMER PRINCIPLES
What Keep It Cheap stands for.
Make affordability a design goal.
Evaluate hardware by what people can reasonably afford and how long they can use it. Lower cost should come with honest information about performance, quality, and limitations.
Make prices understandable.
Show the full purchase price and explain what buyers receive. State required recurring costs, support terms, and important limitations before a purchase.
Respect ownership.
People should be able to control, maintain, upgrade, and use the hardware they buy, including choosing compatible software.
Support repair and longer useful life.
Favor serviceable designs, useful documentation, replaceable parts where practical, and clear compatibility information.
Protect meaningful choice.
Support competition, interoperability, and fair comparison so buyers can choose among suppliers and switch when another product better meets their needs.
